Oracle has recently introduced “Reports” as an in-built method inside “EPM Cloud” environments such as PBCS or EPBCS to create pixel-perfect reports from data sources in the environment. This blog post introduces the new functionality and puts it into a broader context.

Reports

You can access “Reports” by going to the “Hamburger” item and selecting “Application”->” Reports”:

In this example, I am considering “VisCnsl” as a Data source.

Once you select the “Data Source”, the report will open with the default dimensions of “Data Source” as shown below:

Account dimension in Row and Period dimension in a column by default, and the remaining dimension will be in the POV.

To set up edit/arrange the dimensions in the report, click on Qubix Oracle Product Updates Blog - Reports in Oracle EPM Cloud  the Hide Dimension Layout option.

For example, I would like to set a Green background to the cells which has value >20(Positive Variance) in the Variance% column:

Likewise, you can set Negative Variance and Variance etc.

Formatting Font & Alignment

We can format our cell to change the Font Style, Size, and alignment.

Also, we can set border and change the Indentation of the member using the Cell properties as shown below:

Management Reporting

“Reports” in EPM Cloud are a trimmed-down version of “Management Reporting” that is limited to the data sources used in the same EPM Cloud instance such as FCCS, PBCS or EPBCS. “Management Reporting” is a component of Oracle’s “Narrative Reporting”.

The main difference between “Reports” and “Management Reporting” is that “Reports” provides pre-defined data sources to choose from, which cannot be extended. These sources are built automatically from the models in its EPM Cloud pod, such as the ASO and BSO plan types in PBCS or EPBCS. In “Management Reporting”, such data sources have to be created manually. Note that data sources can span over various source systems, including “EPM Cloud” pods and stand-alone Essbase environments.

As soon as reports need to be generated from more than one source system, it is required to use “Management Reporting” as part of “Narrative Reporting” rather than “Reports”.
