Ocado leverages Oracle Cloud Planning, Budgeting and Reporting technologies to scale finance for hyper-growth.

Ocado plc. is the world's largest online-only grocery retailer with over 580,000 active shoppers and 230,000 orders per week as of 2018. Unlike its traditional competitors, Ocado has no brick-and-mortar stores and fulfils all home deliveries from its warehouses. The company has pioneered the use of cloud, robotics, AI and IoT in the retail e-commerce space.

Ocado's financial processes were heavily reliant spreadsheets. This created challenges in data accuracy, time wastage and lack of business insight. With Ocado's ambitious growth plans it became obvious finance needed to change and adopt new technologies. Qubix has proven experience designing solutions for the complex and unique needs of retailers. Our team analyzed Ocado's internal account structure, identified key initiatives, and delivered a solution in a 12-week time frame. Ocado achieved a single version of truth which resulted in significant time-savings as well as improvements in data accuracy and insights.

  • A 50% reduction in their planning process cycle time.
  • The introduction of scenario based modeling and predictive "What-If" analysis.
  • Better financial visibility with use of ad-hoc KPIs on across a variety of business measures and departments.
  • More insight by entering weekly sales for each Department.
  • Accurately budgeting staff expenses at an employee level.
  • Use of Qubix CloudBridge deployed for data orchestration, which has lowered the cost and complexity of integrating multiple systems.

Ocado Transforms Finance with Qubix

Why did Ocado choose Oracle Cloud?

"There are two reasons why we picked an Oracle Cloud solution. Firstly, our main direct competitors use an Oracle Planning solution. Secondly, Gartner's Magic Quadrant always ranks Oracle solutions number one for the last number of years."
Vineta Bajaj
Group Financial Reporting Manager

Ocado Deploys Oracle PBCS with Qubix in 48 days.

Ocado transformed their planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes in less than 12 weeks with the Qubix Cloud Journey Methodology. Qubix and Ocado partnered using an agile project approach and joint-development team increasing Ocado self-sufficiency for future changes.

Leading Oracle Platinum Partner, The Qubix Group (Qubix) guided Ocado to transform a spreadsheet driven process into a streamlined and flexible financial reporting and planning platform. The result was a finance team equipped with more time and insight to better support the scalability of the business cost-effectively. Qubix created a "truth-layer" which provides Ocado with a single source of reliable financial data that is trusted.

One source of the truth is very important for a company like us because as we are growing people have different data sources. So having one data source in the cloud, which helps for scalability as well, was just for us in the finance function."
